How To Build A Solar Panel – Part 3

Watch in HD Watch The First Part of This Project First At: www.youtube.com Visit Solar Tech Town for the full video: www.solartechtown.com I, Robert Smith, show you every step I take to building a custom made solar panel from scratch. I explain in detail about each item I use and why to use it, so the video is fairly long. I will be hosting the majority of the video on my own server so you can view it all in one take. It will take time to edit the video, but the more of you that subscribe to the video, the faster Ill try to get it out to you guys as it just shows that people are interested and appreciate what Im doing, as Im providing this video for free unlike some videos you see on YouTube. The method I described in this video is just one way to go about it, however, there are many ways you can build a custom solar panel. Some use aluminum or plastic frames, but I found for a beginner, working with wood would probably be easier and cheaper. Overall, building a solar panel can be fun, but there are many factors that play into building a solar panel, and I as well still have an extreme amount to still learn about it. So I hope that for those wanting to learn more about solar energy and wanting to take the adventure of building their own solar panel will find this video very useful. To watch to full video just video, just visit www.solartechtown.com Again the video is fairly large, so to prevent from having to put 6 or 7 parts on youtube in 10 minute sections, Im just <b>…<b>

  7. Its safer to solder the tabbing to the front side first because later when you solder all the cells together you will have to lay them it face down which keeps light off the joined cells and you want get electrocuted.

  15. @shivb23 I’m afraid not. I wish I did think at the time to run a few test to see how bad the music faded out my voice. Most of what I’m doing is displayed in the black titles at different times in the videos, so hopefully that helps.

  17. There’s been a lot of news recently about sunspots and solar flares. I was wondering if these have any effect on solar power systems? Do they create more electricity than normal during solar activity?

  18. nice video. what happens if i use s platic board insted of wooden board? is plastic dielectrict?

  19. How do those vinyl gloves actually keep you from burning yourself? I thought the reason you were wearing the gloves was to keep the lead from the solder off of your skin.

  20. Yeah, you definitely need a better soldering iron, you shouldn’t have to flatten it like that to melt the solder. You should be able to melt the solder with the point of the iron and a little solder on the end of it.

  21. @NewnotesJR I was mostly wearing the gloves to reduce fingerprints/oil on top of my solar cells. I doubt I’ve ever burnt myself with a soldering iron, but that was the primary reason.

  22. For anyone else looking at these vids, having a soldering iron with a flat tip is helpful in doing this. Also, a thicker tip retains more heat so get a bigger tip for your brand iron if possible. I have an 75W with a big fat tip and it heats up very quick and works great.
